Check Initial Scan Parameters
Scan Panel
In the Scan panel, set the following initial scan parameters:
- Scan Rate: 0.5 Hz
- Scan Size: 500 nm
- Scan Angle: 0
Feedback Panel
For Contact Mode:
- Deflection Setpoint: 2 V more than the vertical deflection during laser alignment
- Integral Gain: 5
- Proportional Gain: 10
For TappingMode:
- Integral Gain: 0.5
- Proportional Gain: 5
- It is not necessary to enter a value for Amplitude Setpoint for TappingMode because this value is automatically determined during the engage process.
Channels 1 and 2
- Channel 1 Data Type: Height Sensor
- Channel 2 Data Type: Deflection Error in Contact Mode or Amplitude Error in TappingMode
- Data Scale: choose a reasonable value for the sample. For example, for a 200 nm step height calibration sample, a reasonable initial Data Scale setting is 300 nm. The Data Scales will automatically be adjusted after a few seconds of scanning by the Autoscale function.
- Line Direction: Trace or Retrace
- Channel 3 through Channel 8 Data Type: Off
Previous Steps:
- Fluid Set Up
- Align the Laser
- Load the Sample and Adjust the SPM Scanner
- Locate the Tip
- Tune the Cantilever (TappingMode Only)
- Focus on the Sample Surface
Next Steps:
- Engage and Adjust Scan Parameters
- Withdraw and Clean Up
